NEW Story County 4-H HyperStream Club Seeks 6th-8th Grade Members!

Sixth through eighth graders, you’re invited to start a new adventure at the new 4-H HyperStream Club!  Youth interested in technology, multimedia, game design, photography, science, or how technology is used in the animal industry and more will love this new club!

The first meeting will be Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the State  4-H Office at the southwest corner of Stange Road and 13th Streets in Ames.  Regular meetings will be the second and fourth Thursdays of each month beginning February 14 at that same location and time.   Parents are welcome at meetings.  On January 31, members will be introduced to partnering organizations and decide on which types of technology they would like to focus on.

The group may choose to do any or all of the options including robotics, game design and multimedia. Robotics will use Lego Mindstorms NXT to create robots and program commands to solve challenges. Game Design will use the Alice programming system to blend technology with creativity to create educational game worlds with virtual characters and plots. Multimedia will involve youth in learning about a variety of mediums as they dapple into fields of photography, photo editing, video production, presentation software, web design and more.

The new club is a part of Iowa Governor Branstad’s Scale Up STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiative.  The HyperStream 4-H club is a partnership between the Technology Association of Iowa Educational Foundation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development and Harrisvaccines, the business ambassador whose staff will teach at the club meetings.

Youth must join 4-H or be current members.  Enroll in the HyperStream club at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/story/page/join-4-h.  Adult organizational volunteers are also needed.  Please contact Mary Wilkins, Story County Extension Office, 515-382-6551 for more information on volunteering for or joining the club.
